Reflections 04:39
When the night did wash over me I learnt to see between these eyes Discovered expanse behind the tides The less I identified With the storms that raged my mind The more the tranquillity did rise Was letting go As I loosened my resistance Allowed the sails to flow When holding on I pushed against the current And the cracks began to form Now this time when I’m searching This time I will take it all inside My outer perception is just a reflection Of feelings inside When you are sailing through you want both eyes to feel the way So you can allow the course to change For when one eye is so firm upon your destination You leave but one to find the way Letting go You loosen the resistance Allow the sails to flow For holding on Will only push against the current Allow the cracks to form It comes and goes It Comes and goes It Comes and goes x 2 When the night comes over And the mind is calm You will feel the depth and stillness rising through you When the storms rage on But the mind is calm Not a ripple can disturb the surface of the mind It comes and goes It Comes and goes It Comes and goes x 2 Now this time when I’m searching This time I will take it all inside For my outer reflection is just a perception Of feelings inside

The Presence 04:10
As I’m looking round I realise How much there is surrounding me now both in and out, I’m taking me out Appreciating what is here The more I can see, things in my life, open for me Searching my mind, been finding the time To look through my eyes and witness all the beauty surrounding me realising its been waiting for me to see Beginning to feel that, this moment is the real gift that, has always been given to me And I understand with thanks it’ll always be And when I feel good now I am calling out Embracing the Self So when I feel good now I am calling out reaping in oh baby I’m reaping This time is now easier when When my time is spent appreciating reaping in oh baby I’m reaping This time is now easier when When my time is spent appreciating As I’m looking round I realise How much there is surrounding me now both in and out, I’m taking me out Appreciating what is here The more I can see, things in my life, open for me Beginning to feel that, this moment is the real gift that, has always been given to me And I understand with thanks it’ll always be And when I feel good now I am calling out Embracing the Self So when I feel good now I am calling out reaping in oh baby I’m reaping This time is now easier when When my time is spent appreciating reaping in oh baby I’m reaping This time is now easier when When my time is spent appreciating Taking it all over and away This time I’m well renewed, This time I’m going write my own life story I’m taking it all over and away reaping in oh baby I’m reaping This Time is now easier when When my time is spent appreciating reaping in oh baby I’m reaping This Time is now easier when When my time is spent appreciating

Calling 01:42
Sing away caught away Calling for answers and you fall away Into the light through the rain Calling for answers to the rain, call You call To the rain caught away Calling for answers and you fall away

Gazing into the sunset I see the light as red and gold The more I admit to the dark The more I see the light I’m finally knowing now, The truth that I was told, Not to seek, But to find all the barriers But how you must feel it Allowing the cold to seep away into the night And how you must feel it Allowing the old to be and drift into the night You raise these eyes And you take these eyes again You raise these eyes And you take these eyes again You raise these eyes And you take these eyes again And you change and the rain it pours right out And you change and the rain it pours right out And you change and you change yeah you change And you change and you change yeah you change

Take Me Home 04:56
Events that surrounded me Inspired an intensity kept me in anxiety I began to realise, the world surrounding me Was mirroring how I felt inside Whenever I felt disordered Blame did rise you see Creating separation And anxiety Whenever I felt disordered Blame did rise you see The challenge lies not outside For that is just a mirror of me The things I feel most challenged with Project outside of me So I can see it exists separate from me Accepting it away from me I allow myself to be accepting all of me Whenever I feel this order Joy does rise you see Creating a tight fusion Inner unity Whenever I feel this order Joy does rise you see The challenge never was there For it was just a mirror of me So take me home The more I focus and allow, the more I focus and allow It takes me home I arrive within the now and I am finally within the now When I am open to the way I will find me back there The more I pushed away from me The more it pushed right back you see I’m accepting all of me When I take me as I am Allowing me to understand I am doing the best I can When I take you as you are Realising you’re a part And are doing the best you can With what we have Whenever I feel this order Joy does rise you see Creating a tight fusion Inner unity Whenever I feel this order Joy does rise you see The challenge never was there For it was just a mirror of me So take me home The more I focus and allow, the more I focus and allow It takes me home I arrive within the now and I am peaceful when within the now Take Me Home

about

All the profits from sales of this music will be reinvested back in to the project to provide more music workshops across mental health hospital wards.

Pete Hirst, lead singer of ‘refuge’, experienced some really challenging times with his mental health in his early 20’s; with three admissions in three years spending a total of around 11 months on the hospital wards before being diagnosed with Bipolar. As a result, he felt that more activities on the wards would aid patient’s recovery time.

Since leaving hospital Pete has learned many tools to keep himself well and the lyrics written for this album centre around his journey of recovery. Pete’s story offers hope to patients when they learn that he is now the joint owner of a company called Develop-Insite CIC, a social enterprise designed to help and support those with mental health challenges.

The band has been together, in its current format, since 2010 with Pete on lead vocals, Sam Munton on bass and Phil Seaman on guitar and backing vocals. ‘refuge’ were funded for this project to write an EP and run 20 ward workshops which they achieved over an 11 month period commencing in 2014.

This experience has allowed them to understand, first-hand, how music unites people and that its creative energy can be very supportive and absorbing in challenging times.

Moving InWards was generously *funded by the Arts Council England with £15,000 enabling the band to develop a workshop model that could be rolled out nationally across hospital wards, their journey has been wonderful and they thank all the patients, staff and mentors that have supported them along the process.

Also mentored by Gaz Birtles of the Beautiful South and Mark Morriss of The Bluetones, a dream come true for the band, especially Pete, who collected all The Bluetones early vinyl releases as a young boy! Mark generously provided a vocal for the track: ‘Find You Know’.
Pete, Sam & Phil truly hope you enjoy the music, with their deepest gratitude.

* Note: all recording, production and duplication of this album was funded personally by ‘refuge’.
